Synopsis
The sprezzatura of American and English expats in Rome is shattered by an encounter between a young American and her lover’s bullying brother. Through it all, a faintly absurd poet and scholar named Augustus Reading—worldly yet earnest, sybaritic yet civilized, ridiculous yet sublime—manages to uphold a standard of decency bordering on grace.

William Prendiville was born in Ireland, raised in Canada, and lives in Paris. An author and journalist, his previous works include the novella Atlantic Winds.
